When Roosevelt High School adopted her framework for teaching writing. they relentlessly insisted that we middle school teachers do the same. For two years, I resisted their attempts to sell us yet another "program improvement program." At UTLA, I met other chapter chairs who shared the cross-curriculur aspects of her program and so I convinced our School Site Council to bring Jane in on a buy back day. The strategies I learned at that session forever changed my life. More of our students scoring threes and fours in the District's "high stakes" Performance Assignment, and teams of teachers have adapted her template to use with Exhibitions across the curriculum. Jane has a great sense of humor and was incredibly easy to work with. I continue to use Jane Schaeffer's strategies and curriculum guides on a daily basis. Thanks to Jane, teaching writing (and correcting student work) is no longer a drugery, but a joy.

I am using Jane's Book Talks with my 7th graders. I now know exactly what each student is reading. If they try to fudge their way through the talk, you can tell immediately. The students do their talks with me during SSR. What I enjoy most about the talks is the fact that I get to talk one-on-one with students; no AR program will ever be able to accomplish that!

I teach 8th grade LA and attended Reading/Writing workshop. It was wonderful! I have been asked to help disseminate what I have learned to cross-curricula teachers in my building. Does anyone have some suggestions for me?

I am the English Dept.Chair for a diverse-ability, multi-ethnic high school with 1,100 students. Jane's program is the best I've seen to use with these students, because it reaches all ability levels; once they master the basics, they can go on to "weaving," as Jane calls it, and soar! But they need a format they can understand, and this works! We are implenting her program department-wide next year, after having had great results piloting it this year.

Our entire K-12 school district has adopted Jane's writing unit as a guide to improve the quality of writing. We've devised a packet for teachers in grades 3, 6, and 9 to help them use the terminology and elements of good writing. Our district-wide writing assessment in those three grade levels revolves around Jane's writing unit. We love the results!!!

Jane Schaffer possesses in abundance the greatest gift of the master teacher. Blessed with a dry sense of humor, she is a born story teller. She'll make you laugh; she'll make you a better teacher. Jane transforms the craft into an art.

As a Director of Curriculum for a large school district, I am now sold on the Schaffer model. Teachers attending the workshops have a good time, think hard, and leave with something they can use in their classroom the next day. The program has also been successful with our "Writing across the Curriculum" implementation.

Each year my former high school students return from college excited that the Jane Schaffer writing program prepared them so well for university-level work. The multiparagraph essay unit works with all levels of students.
